Resumo: Various experimental and theoretical strategies for mass spectral interpretation are presented. These are based on establishment of relationships between the presence of certain structural features and the fragmentation that molecules could experience after their ionization. Typical cases are illustrated in which functional groups and substituents are detected in the studied molecules, based on the identification of characteristic spectral signals and typical neutral mass losses.
