O Renascimento das partículas superficialmente porosas (“core shell particles”) em HPLC

Lanças, Fernando M.

Palavras-chave: Stationary phases, fused core, superficially porous particles, core shell particles.

Resumo: In this work the main characteristics of superficially porous particles (also termed core shell particles and sometimes porous shell particles) and their use in HPLC is discussed. Amongst the major advantages usually atributed to these particles one of the salient ones is the preparation of highly efficient columns, which allows high speed separations. The superficially porous column characteristics are compared with those of the equivalent totally porous particles. Another advantage of the former is the lower backpressure generated at high flow rates, thus allowing the use of conventional HPLC systems for fast analysis. Applications of these columns are also discussed.
