Resumo: This review is part of a series to be published in this journal having as the main objective to present and discusses the major characteristics of capillary liquid chromatography, cLC. Among the several aspects covered in the paper, the review includes its development process, the several proposed nomenclatures, the main advantages of cLC over its conventional counterpart termed High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC), and the instrumentation requirements to properly operates using this technique. The reasons why cLC is not yet a major universal routine analytical technique is also presented and discussed.
