Resumo: The achievement of a chromatographic analysis, just as the performance of a musical piece by a symphonic orchestra, requires the harmonic combination of all analytical system components, each one operating under the conditions which best satisfy the detection and separation needs imposed by the sample’s chemical nature and the purpose of the analysis. This work presents a laconic description of the fundamental blocks of a gas chromatographic system, from the viewpoint of their function. Recommendations are included, for their correct integration under the direction of Homo sapiens var. chimicus, the chromatograph operator.
