Resumo: The increasing demand to reduce the use of organic solvents in laboratories has promoted the search for alternative solvents. The phase separation of surfactants, induced by environmental conditions such as temperature and pH, has been widely used in analytical extraction and pre-concentration systems of various analytes. The surfactant rich phase is a nanostructured liquid, recently referred to as supramolecular solvent (SUPRAS), which are formed by a continuous phase and a dispersed phase generated from the spontaneous association of different molecules in a self-organized system. SUPRAS have specific macroscopic properties that arise from the high level of organization at the nano and molecular scales. One of the main advantages of SUPRAS involve its amphiphilic nature, so that the presence of different degrees of polarity in the different regions of the supramolecular aggregates provides excellent solvation properties for a wide variety of organic and inorganic compounds. This review covers progress in both the theoretical and practical aspects related to the use of supramolecular solvents in recently reported analytical extractions. Especial attention is devoted to discuss the use of SUPRAS for microextractions, such as SDME, LLME, HF-LPME and DLLME in substitution of the traditionally used organic solvents. In summary, this review aims to discuss the production and the application of SUPRAS for microextractions of a sort of analytes in a great diversity of samples.
